The Future of LEGO Pirates

Recently, there has been some talk about the future of LEGO Pirates. All talk of this matter usually leads to disappointment. Last year everyone would yell “2013 is the year of pirates!” But now we clearly see that we won’t get pirate sets this year. However, we are getting a Lord of the Rings Corsair Ship this year. Although not what pirate fans wanted, it is better than nothing.

The Collectible Minifigure Series has given us some pirate figs. Series 8 which was released in the middle of last year gave us a Pirate Captain and Conquistador. Although the Conquistador is an awesome fig, it is highly unlikely it will be released in a set or have a theme of it’s own. The Pirate Captain is different however. The Pirate Captain would make a great protagonist for a new LEGO Pirate theme. It would fit well with TLG’s idea of making sets for boys around the age of 8 and 10. The Pirate Captain is flashy and looks like a gold lover. And there is now a bluecoat that will be released in Series 10, and it looks promising. Not only does this new fig have new torso, but a new white wig that LEGO fans around  the world have been waiting for. If there is going to ever be a new pirates them, it will probably have the torso and/or the wig of this new bluecoat. However, these mini-fig will probably never have a theme to call it’s own. The reason for that is Pirates of the Caribbean.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean has replaced the Classic Pirate theme we have all grown to know and love. Although not a major success as it was thought to be, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is probably our best chance to get new pirate theme. But we will have to wait because if we do get more sets, they will probably come with Potc 5 which will be released in  July 2015.

Although the most probable chance of getting some more pirate sets will be with Potc 5, you should never give up hope. Who knows? TLG may have a short little pirate theme just before Potc 5. This little theme may just last a year, but at-least that’s something. My advice to those who want pirate sets is to just go buy some off bricklink and eBay because it’s going to be a long wait for new pirate sets.
